On February 28th, the U.S. military launched its largest military operation since 2003. This was done on Trump’s orders alone; Congress did not authorize this campaign.
The Constitution requires the president to seek congressional approval before deploying the U.S. military on foreign soil. Trump’s unilateral decision to engage in hostilities against another country directly undermines and bypasses the Constitution.
The cost of the first week of war alone is estimated to be $6 billion, which would cover a full year of healthcare for 660,000 Medicaid enrollees.
The war has already led to the death of 14 U.S. servicemembers and thousands of civilians and has caused devastating destruction across the region.
FINANCIAL TIES BETWEEN TRUMP OFFICIALS AND THE INDUSTRIES THEY HELP REGULATE
Conflicts of Interest and Ethical Concerns
Pro Publica recently investigated financial ties between multiple high-ranking Trump officials and the industries they oversee. The study revealed that many Trump appointees have existing or previous financial connections to the industries they help regulate. Pro Publica also exposed at least a dozen appointees who withheld the identities of former clients.
Close financial ties between government officials and the industries they help regulate undermines ethical safeguards and erodes transparency. This regime is exploiting their position in government for their own profit.
Additionally, appointees withholding the names of former clients reduces clarity for the American public and raises concerns about bias and favoritism in government actions.
USING THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT FOR HIS OWN POLITICAL GAIN
Weaponizing the Department of Justice
In January, Trump’s DOJ launched a baseless investigation into Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell for alleged ‘abuse of taxpayer dollars.’ Powell condemned the probe as a retaliation for not setting interest rates in line with Trump’s wishes.
Trump wanted Powell to lower interest rates to spur economic activity to offset the impact of his harmful tariffs, rising costs, and healthcare failures.
Trump using the DOJ to bully Powell into submitting to his wishes is an abuse of power. The Fed is an independent entity and bases decisions on economic data, not presidential demands.
THREATENING TO RIG DEMOCRATIC ELECTIONS
Threats to Nationalize Voting
Trump has called on Republicans to ‘nationalize’ and ‘take over’ the voting in his latest desperate attempt to rig the midterm elections that he knows he is going to lose. This comes on the backdrop of the FBI’s raid of the Fulton County Board of Elections as part of the unjustified investigation into the 2020 election.
The Constitution gives the power to regulate elections to states and Congress, not the president or any political party. Trump’s attempts to nationalize the voting is a clear violation of the law and an abuse of presidential power.
